Hi everyone! This is another one of our "Inspired
"series amps. It is based on the vintage classic Fender 6G2 Princeton....which was one of Eric Clapton's
favorite recording amps in the 60's. It is a fantastic little Class A blues amps that incorporates
mods developed over years of fine tuning amps for all our"rock on" guitar buds all over the world.
In the output stage, we use a pair of venerable
old 6V6's in Class A. ...and we chose a Fender output transformer to best replicate the smooth bluesy vintage tones.
We added a post output transformer LINE OUT with LINE OUT LEVEL control for
studio recording, driving a higher power amp, or for using the amp as a tube preamp/overdrive. There is a auto switching
internal load if the speaker is not plugged in which will give you speaker simulated loaded output tones.
NOTE: ( Also great for using headphones during those late night practice sessions!)
In the front end, we
put a Bright pull-switch on the Gain control to perk up the highs at low Gain settings. We also added a cathode follower
stage prior to the driver stage. This provides the solid low impedance base for the next mod which is the original single
tone control on the Princeton has been replaced with a 3 Band EQ similar to the one used on the Bassman amps. This EQ will
allow you to get just about any kind of tone you want. We also added a Master Level control that allows you to crank
the Gain control up and overdrive the preamp without overdriving the output tubes. This creates even more tones.
Other added features of the amp include, a three prong grounded
power cord, classic knobs, and a Standby Switch. The tube line up is 5Y3 rectifier, 12AX7 Preamp, 12AX7
Driver and a pair of matched 6V6's in the output.
The front panel controls are 1/4" Input jack, Gain Control
with pull Bright switch, Bass control, Mid Control, Treble control, Master Level control, Standby Switch, On/Off
Switch The rear panel has 1/4" Speaker Output Jack (8 Ohm Impedance), 1/4" Line Out jack, Line Out Level control,
Power Fuse, and Power Cord.
The amp is built on a 12" x 8" x 2" non-magnetic aluminum
chassis. It has a metal bottom plate with rubber feet. This is a rock solid hand wired point-to-point amp that
uses only the best of parts...low noise tubular polypropylenes caps, metal film resistors, Switchcraft jacks, ceramic sockets,
etc.
We checked the amp on the bench and on speakers. It puts out
a smokin' 15 watts that sounds like 50 watts through a 12" Alnico Tone Tubby. The sound is clean and crisp and
when you step on it.... develops three distinct types of crunch and distortion depending on whether you are overdriving
the preamp tubes, output tubes, or both. The three band EQ tone controls provides a wide EQ range and creates the vintage
sound of the early production Fender tube amps.
